This is a new favourite for me. Recently unveiled by the folk behind Freemans, Peels is located on a busy corner of Bowery – not too far, incidentally, from its hideaway counterpart, which is located a few blocks south at the end of Freeman Alley (off Rivington). Haven’t sampled the lunch or dinner menus at Peels at yet, but can definitely vouch for the counter food – amongst which you’ll find melt in your mouth, orange peel infused Anzac cookies! (Anzac cookies!!) At $1.50 they’re one of many other well priced treats, all of which are even more delicious when paired with the perfect Stumptown coffees these guys turn out. Opt for table service if you’re after a full meal, or simply perch at the communal table while you enjoy your coffee and soak up the morning sun.
